Also known as N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine.  A hormone produced by the pineal gland.  Melatonin is best known for its role in regulating sleep and circadian rhythms. Melatonin also acts as an antioxidant, and—interestingly enough—may increase the exercise-induced production of growth hormone when taken in supplemental form.
